Accessibility statement

What works

• Semantic HTML throughout, with one h1 per page and a single visible skip link.
• Keyboard navigation: every interactive control is reachable, focus is visible, and the Quick Exit shortcut (Esc) leaves the site immediately.
• Colour contrast meets or exceeds 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text.
• No autoplaying media, no scroll-jacking, no carousels.
• Charts include text-equivalent readouts; no information is conveyed by colour alone.
• Reduced-motion preference is respected via prefers-reduced-motion.
• The site works with JavaScript disabled for core reading. Live feeds need JavaScript.

Known limitations

• Some embedded source documents (Home Office PDFs, third-party reports) are not under our control and may not meet the same standard.
• A small number of data tables on force pages do not yet have an alternative summary view; we are working through them.

Trauma-informed defaults

• No images of police uniforms, weapons, sirens or distressed people on landing pages.
• Quick Exit on every page (Esc, or the button top-right).
• Cover your tracks link in the footer for anyone whose device may be monitored.
• No third-party trackers; nothing you paste into the Facets Checker leaves your browser.
