Making Complaints

1. Complaints to the Police

You can complain about your treatment, delays, or failures to follow procedure. Most forces will wait to investigate your complaint until any criminal investigation has concluded.

You can usually submit a complaint online via your force's website or by post.

2. Escalating to the IOPC

If you are unhappy with the police response, you can escalate to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC). They oversee complaints and can investigate serious misconduct.

3. Reporting to the ICO

If the police fail to respond to a Subject Access Request or misuse your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
